Have a Question?
As our members are aware, the TransCanada Pipeline Canadian Mainline crosses through our territory and comes within several hundred meters of the back limit of our First Nation. The announcement of the conversion project to turn one of the existing natural gas pipelines into a pipeline that will carry crude oil has precipitated conversations between the First Nation and the project proponents.
Members of Chief and Council, as well as our advisors recently undertook to take a closer look at this project and to see how we might to be positioned to participate in the future. The results of this discussion was a strategy that deals with our long-term relationship with TransCanada pipeline including what has happened in the past, what is going to happen in the future and what we plan to do through each step of the approvals process.
We have written to TransCanada Pipeline informing them of how we want to move forward by dividing regional and local issues. TransCanada must be willing to work with us to deal with the local issues so that we can resolve the regional ones. This project affects us as much as anyone else so we will be taking a leadership role in working with TransCanada to reach agreements that make the most sense for both Parties.
